Body Composition
Image One is proud to partner with AMRA Medical, a health informatics company at the forefront of medical imaging.

Using whole-body MRI and automated image analysis, AMRA can assess an individual’s muscle and fat throughout the body, and relate it to human health and disease.

This MRI is super fast but don't let that fool you... A lot of important information is gathered in a very short time (think about 15 minutes).

What is Body Composition?
Body composition definitions vary by source, but ultimately, it describes what the body is made up of—which is mainly fat, muscles, bone, and water. It is used to offer a better glimpse into health than more traditional methods such as Body Mass Index. BMI accounts for only height and weight. It does not take into account body fat vs. muscle mass.

A Body Composition Study with us will allow you to get an accurate look at lean muscle mass, muscle fat, visceral fat, and liver fat... all better indicators of your health and longevity.

Let's break it down and see why these measurements are so important...

5 Key measurements of your fat and muscle distribution
Intra-abdominal fat that is stored around and between the abdominal organs.
Excessive visceral fat has been presented as a strong predictor of cardiovascular diseases as well as type 2 diabetes, and has been associated with increased risk of cancer, liver inflammation and fibrosis, metabolic syndrome, stroke, sleep apnea, among others.
The most prominent type of fat and it is stored beneath the skin.
Generalized excessive fat accumulation, including subcutaneous fat as the prominent type, has been associated with overweight, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, cancer, depression, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, among others.
Excessive accumulation of fat in the liver.
Increases the risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and type 2 diabetes.
Fat deposited inside skeletal muscles and it indicates muscle quality.
Excessive muscle fat has been associated with reduced physical function, disability, frailty, increased fracture risk, type 2 diabetes, increased risk of hospitalization, severe illness outcome, poor overall survival, among others.
Lean volume of skeletal muscles and it indicates the muscle quantity.
Low muscle volume has been associated with shorter survival, poorer quality of life, frailty, sarcopenia, falls, and lower physical function which could lead to longer length of a hospital stay and higher surgical and post-operative complications.
