Before your Appointment

In order to schedule your appointment, we need an MRI requisition from your doctor or specialist. Once we receive your requisition, we will contact you to go over some pre-screening questions, answer any questions you may have, and book your appointment. Any specific preparation instructions for your exam will be given to you at this time.

Currently the clinic is experiencing an higher number of referrals resulting in longer wait times. We understand this is challenging and frustrating and are working overtime to see as many patients as we can in the shortest possible time frame.  With extended clinic hours, including some weekends, and our cancellation list (which can move quite quickly) we hope to quickly get back to the efficiency and timeline you know us for.  We are currently booking patients within 10-14 days.

Due to the strong magnetic field, it is very important for us to know about your surgical history. Most surgical implants are safe but we may require more information to be certain. Please let us know if you have any of the following:

  • Cardiac Pacemaker
  • Stents or valve replacements
  • Cochlear implants
  • Aneurysm clips
  • History of metallic fragments or slivers in your eyes
  • Neurostimulators
  • Programmable shunts
  • Insulin or medication pumps


Upon arrival, you will fill out a screening form and go through some pre-exam questions with a technologist. We provide comfortable metal free clothing for you to wear for the exam.

Positioning on the table will depend on what is being scanned, and a specific device that we call a coil will be placed on or around the area to be examined. We will provide hearing protection because it is very noisy and sounds like a loud knocking when the scans are being acquired. When the exam is in session you will be asked to keep perfectly still, as any motion could reduce the quality of the images. The technologist will be in contact with you throughout your entire exam and you are given a call button to press if you need to get their attention at any time.

Some exams require an MRI contrast injection to get more detail. This is unlike other contrast dyes used in X-ray or CT and it is very rare to have an allergic reaction.


After your scan is complete, you will be given a copy of all your images to take with you when you see your doctor(s).  Our radiologist will review those images, and a written report of findings will be sent to your doctor within the next 2 business days.  Unfortunately, we are unable to discuss those results with you and ask that you do any follow up with your referring physician to determine what your next step will be.

After an MRI you are free to resume normal activity.
